Garen Lee McCune is the president and owner of GLM Custom Homes, Inc. in Granite Bay, CA, a residential community east of Sacramento.  For over thirty years GLM has specialized in building custom homes and offering architectural drafting and design services to clients.  From the smallest remodel to the largest custom home, McCune is a hands-on involved general contractor.  He is the one you will work with throughout all stages of the project!  Although McCune enjoys the low profile of working out of his home and accruing business mainly by referral, he has earned a solid reputation as a successful and reputable builder.

Mr. McCune has been an active member of the Building Industry Association of Northern California (BIA) and served for three years on the Board of Directors.  He was also the first chairman of the Custom Home Builders’ Council, a BIA advisory committee formed in 1987.  In 1990, representing the BIA, GLM Custom Homes teamed with Pacific Gas & Electric and the California Energy Commission to design and build a pioneer energy research home on the west coast.  The goal of the project was to promote energy savings in the custom market as well as to set up a research lab in California for the building industry similar to the Smart House on the east coast.  The home was built in Rocklin, CA and was named the E3 Home (Energy Efficient Environment).  Although the E3 Home was not open to the general public, it received significant local and professional interest and media coverage for over three years.

Professional History
Since 1977 McCune and family have enjoyed the building opportunities in the Sacramento area.  Over the years he has build homes in the counties of Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado, Sutter, Nevada, and Lassen.  He also survived the challenging years that seem an inevitable part of the building cycle.  These years required renewed business strategy and McCune pursued projects in Truckee, Susanville, Yuba City, Reno and Washoe County, NV, and even Kauai, HI.  Today he continues to work wherever referrals take him, always with the same personal hands-on commitment.

Major Participations
1981—Crown Point Estates, Roseville, CA.  This was an innovative custom model home and sales site presented by Coker-Kroeger Real Estate.  GLM was one of the six different custom builders featured in the project.

1987—Street of Dreams, Sacramento in Rancho Murieta, CA.  This was the first marketed showcase of custom homes in California by the Washington based company, Street of DreamsGLM was one of the eight builder participants.

1990—E3 Home (Energy Efficient Environment)GLM, representing the BIA, teamed with PG & E and the California Energy Commission to complete this innovative project.  See above section.

1980—ORCHARD ESTATES, Fair Oaks, CA: custom subdivision of 13 homes

1989—QUAIL CREEK ESTATES, Carmichael, CA: gated custom home subdivision of nine houses…received esteemed MAME award for best custom subdivision in the Sacramento region for 1989.

1996-98—MEADOWVIEW TERRACE, Reno, NV:  residential subdivision of 56 homes

2007—PLUMAS OAKS, Yuba City, CA: condominium project for rent, ownership, and/or investment
